| Merchants to Industry for over 75 years
Schooner Industrial Limited, a company rich in the Maritime tradition, sprang from rather a humble beginnings on the Halifax Waterfront in the early 1900's. The founding company, Schooner Outfitting Co. Ltd., made a name for itself throughout the 1920's by supplying the North Atlantic fishing schooners with everything from sails to sea charts to sturdy fishing tackle. From the basement of the company's emporium on Hollis Street, fishermen from across the region auctioned their catches. When they pulled into port, the world's greatest schooner captains, masters of the seas whose appetite for adventure made them famous, gathered at the company's headquarters to discuss trade and commerce and talk of sail being replaced by steam, wood by steel. Now, Schooner Industrial aims to taketo take those same ideals to a new audience online.
As business grew and as times changed, so did Schooner. To keep pace with the economic reality of an industrializing world, the company began to broaden the product range, the customer base, and to modernize the facilities
In 1981, Schooner Outfitting Co. Ltd. merged with the Atlantic division of British Tire and Rubber Industries of London, England and the name of the company was changed to Schooner Industrial Limited. This merger moved Schooner into the area of rubber products and established the company as one of Atlantic Canada's major industrial supply operations and established a branch in Saint John, New Brunswick. We believe that it was also an important step in setting the future course of our progressive company.
Over the years Schooner Industrial Limited has acquired several industry related companies, and successfully brought them under the Schooner banner. With these acquisitions came solid and seasoned employees who have allowed the company to expand its horizons and customer base to include eastern Ontario. In 2005 Millennium Welding Supply in Saint John, New Brunswick was added to the group and opened a branch location in Dartmouth, NS the following year. With the edition of Valley Hardware in 2007, it has allowed Schooner Industrial a greater presence in the fastener sector in Eastern Ontario. There are plans for further growth in the future.
